District 109 info and conference Finance
From Switzerland in middle of Europe to the Island of Cyprus in the South-Eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, from the high peaks in the Alps Mountains of Austria to the beautiful beaches of Greece, from the marvelous food and wine regions of Italy to the wild east miraculous areas in Bulgaria, this is who we are, District 109.
A very diverse district, with various cultures, languages and yes – your guess is right – an inspiring source of divergent thinking.
And that source of divergent thinking is spread across 6 Divisions with 113 clubs and more than 3.200 members, each of them a divergent thinker of her/his own.
You don´t know what divergency is about?
Let me help you to understand our understanding of divergency. Divergency in its original meaning is a situation, in which two things become different, or the difference between them increases.
One might think that divergent thinking is a bad thing. No, not for us Toastmasters in District 109 and especially not for us, the organizing team of the educational part of this year’s District 109 Conference.
To have different opinions about a topic is the driving factor to keep discussions alive until a consensus has been reached and a decision can be made to which all involved parties can stick to.
As the Finance Manager (FM) of this year´s Educational Part of the D109 Conference, I am in charge of the Conference budget. This means that I have the wonderful challenging opportunity to collect all the various budget needs from my fellow organizers for workshops, social events, awards etc. and I am making all the efforts to see that these needs get covered as best as possible in this non-profit making organisation.
As a wise man once said "No money, no honey" or in other words in the spirit of this year’s conference theme “Think diversely and the rest will follow!”
